2019 BMW 5-Series Performance Review

The 2019 BMW 5 Series delivers a great blend of athleticism and comfort. All of its many power train options deliver plenty of get-up-and-go, and some of them deliver good fuel economy to boot. The 5 Series handles curves well, and it does so without sacrificing ride quality.

Is the BMW 5 Series a Good Car?

The 5 Series is a great car. It offers several energetic powertrains, a smooth ride, and sharper handling than many other luxury midsize cars. This BMW's spacious cabin uses plenty of quality materials and provides two rows of comfortable seats. It comes with a lot of standard features and gives you more cargo room than most rivals. Because the 5 Series has the best combination of cargo and passenger space, safety and reliability ratings, positive reviews from automotive journalists, and available family-friendly features in its class, we named it our 2019 Best Luxury Midsize Car for Families.

Should I Buy the BMW 5 Series?

The biggest knock against the 5 Series is its price, as this car costs more than almost all of its rivals. It's a great car though, so one could argue that it provides a lot of value despite its high price tag. You'll want to compare the 5 Series to rivals like the Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class to see which one you think provides the most bang for your buck.

Should I Buy a New or Used BMW 5 Series?

The 2019 5 Series belongs to a generation that began with the 2017 model. The 2019 BMW 5 Series gets an updated standard features list that includes Apple CarPlay, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, daytime pedestrian protection, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. The 2018 model introduced the 530e plug-in hybrid and the M performance trims to the 5 Series lineup.

You can potentially save thousands of dollars by shopping for a used 5 Series, but older vehicles may not have all the bells and whistles of a newer model.
